You had to be there.
Hello,
I’ve procrastinated writing this update. For all the usual reasons, but also because last week at F&B, there was an incredibly funny story, and it was suggested I write about it.
I find it difficult to write about other people’s stories. I feel like their stories are theirs to tell, and what I took from someone else’s story I can only tell through the lens of my own experiences and stories. It makes me think of the phrase, “straight from the horse’s mouth,” -which I just researched and delayed this update even more! 🙄
Anyhow, I don’t think I could do justice to the story, or in other words, “you had to be there.” Let’s just say there was a vacation with an elderly mother to a spiritual location, that included a very long donkey ride, no bathrooms, and bad-water-induced diarrhea. After hearing that story, I will never hear the words ‘elderly mother’ or ‘donkey’ again without smiling and remembering last week’s Fish And Bear. And frankly, I’m all for this. Reasons to smile are almost an act of rebellion and resistance right now.
All this makes me consider the stories that I have told, thinking they were funny, only to 'enjoy’ the silence where I thought I’d hear laughter.🦗 It seems that, without the expertise and experience of a stand-up comedian, telling a story in order to be funny is about the worst way to get people to laugh. Certainly for me!
There will not be any funny stories at F&B today. Unless there are. No one knows what stories they are going to tell. You have to be there.
Mark
