Unlikely antidote
Well hello there,
Hope this week is at least treating you fairly.
Somebody told me once when I moved to LA, that living here was like the best snuggle you've ever had, followed by sixteen really hard punches to the face. And repeat.
And over the years I've found that to be mostly true. Life is brilliant. Then it's tricky. And then it's brilliant again.
I feel like I'm about on punch number 14. Breaking my arm in the most middle-class accident ever (falling after tripping when one of my slippers caught on the living room carpet) has been a doozy. I'm not enjoying the dance with doctors’ offices and then there's the whole ‘hurts a bit’ thing. And also, this is not a good time to be vulnerable in America.
Anyhoos, last Thursday’s Fish and Bear was the loveliest wee antidote to what was then around punch number 9 and 10.
There's simply nothing quite like talking or listening to stories of other people's real lives to shake anyone out of the deepest reverie.
So if your week has been more punchy than snuggly of late, come along this Thursday for a wee blether, or to partake of a wee drink or snack and listen to other people having a blether.
And if your week has been more snuggly than punchy, come along and spread the love.
I'll be there with my big sore arm and fake Scottish accent, as will Mark and a wee cluster of our now regulars.
The event starts at 7pm and we’re done and dusted by 9.30pm, so it's not too late a night.
