Tips For A Rainy Thursday
Well, hello there,
I don’t mind confessing I’m always a bit surprised when it’s rainy in LA - or as we call it back in the old country, “soup weather”. If you’ve ever been to Scotland, you’ll know that as it seems to rain about 340 days of the year (341 on a leap year), we’re falling over ourselves with recipes for soup. We’re also very accustomed to being out in the rain over there, because if we waited for a dry day, we might never go out at all.
That’s not the case here in LA, though. In inclement weather, it’s more the custom to stay home, only venturing out to drive like a lunatic or swagger through shopping malls wearing giant rain boots.
So, when I wandered into last week’s Fish And Bear, I figured it would be pretty empty. But, no, there were properly people there. Lovely people too, and not a rainboot amongst them. Number three of our events and our biggest group yet.
Amongst other things, I learned in the stories that donkeys are better fighters than coyotes, and why parents sometimes have ‘dead eyes.’
Mark also learned that some people feel they have ‘mark’ written on their forehead when their name completely isn’t Mark.
And we all learned that when you get a bunch of relative strangers to sit around and tell a bunch of stories they didn’t know they were going to tell, friendships blossom incredibly quickly, and everyone feels much better about their place in the world.
Supposedly, it might rain again this Thursday. We’d be very glad to see you, with or without your giant rain boots.
Fish and Bear 7pm on Thursdays.
