Is size important?
Hello,
Well, woohoo, yes, Wednesday night at MacLeods went very well, thanks for asking.
Macleods is much quieter on Wednesdays. No bands and no kinky crafting (don't ask) mean less noise, more parking spaces, and a much more laid-back vibe.
Oops, talking of laid back, I just remembered I haven’t updated the poster on the wall of the bar - it still says ‘Every Thursday.’
If I remember, I’ll pop in there with a marker pen tonight - just like I meant to last night and every night for over a week now. (In case I don’t - and I likely won't- and you happen to be in the loveliest bar in Van Nuys tonight, please feel free to update the poster and right this wrong.)
Moving Fish And Bear from a Thursday to a Wednesday might seem like a small thing, but small things are often underestimated. I could mention the tiny rebrand of Cracker Barrel or some baffoon’s current intention to slightly rename a huge government department, but let’s pretend I didn’t. 🤪
Each week, we ask everyone at Fish And Bear for something awesome they learned. The responses are sometimes really profound, sometimes lovely, and often silly and frivolous - though maybe that’s just my input.
Last Wednesday, a new “Fish And Bearer” said that he’d been reminded how often it is the small, intimate parts of human existence that are the most engaging and interesting. And it made him realize why he finds it so difficult to find a decent movie to watch. Current movies seem packed with the big stuff: wars, conflicts, car chases, murders, and the like. Yet the movies he loves focus on the small, intimate, personal parts of life in between the big plot stuff. (Like in Pulp Fiction, when John Travolta’s character Vincent gets shot after a bathroom break.)
Some small things turn out to be very big indeed and versa vice. 🤔
Next week could be big or small, as we’re starting to host F&B at 7pm Tuesdays in The Parlour Room of the Church of the Valley. That means we’ll be doing 2 events weekly. Every Tuesday and Wednesday, Lynn and I will be actually out at night, like full-blown grown-ups - only dafter.
But first, we need to focus on today, and on this week, and on the fact that MacLeods make brilliant pizza, and have plenty of tasty beverages, and if you stop by this Wednesday, we’ll have stories both big and small (and also the day on the poster might be changed).
See you there.
